AdubianewsA 26-year-old Kenyan man, identified as Seth Mwabe, has been arrested by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for allegedly hacking into a betting firm’s system and stealing KSh 11.4 million (over $88,000).
According to the DCI, Mwabe orchestrated a well-planned cyber fraud scheme while posing as a cybersecurity consultant. Detectives raided his residence, where they discovered a safe, a money-counting machine, and what they described as a fully equipped computer lab used to conduct illegal activities.
Mwabe, who refers to himself as a cybersecurity engineer, dropped out of university in his second year but claims to have been practicing cybersecurity since 2017. His background includes winning Sh50,000 in 2019 during a cybersecurity challenge organized by a local bank.
The DCI stated that Mwabe will face multiple cybercrime-related charges as investigations continue into the scale of his operations and possible accomplices.
