Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) communications team, has described the party’s loss in the Akwatia by-election as a wake-up call for renewal and strategic rebuilding.
Speaking on Channel One TV after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flipped the seat, Boakye-Danquah admitted the outcome was disappointing given the NPP’s past strength in the constituency.
“This was an election we ought to have won. Losing Akwatia is not just a defeat; it is a reminder that our rebuilding process must be taken even more seriously,” he said.
Call for Renewal
He stressed that the NPP is still regrouping after its defeat in the 2024 general elections and must treat setbacks like Akwatia as lessons to refine its approach and strengthen its base.
“We must use this moment to reflect, rebuild, and reconnect with the people,” he added.
Election Outcome
The by-election was held following the death of sitting MP Ernest Kumi. The NDC’s Bernard Bediako Baidoo won the contest, securing nearly 3,000 more votes than the NPP’s candidate.
