AdubianewsIllegal mining in Kyebi continues to draw attention as the Anti-Galamsey Task Force, established by Abuakwa South Municipal Chief Executive Addo-Aikins Jnr, uncovered yet another active site during a routine operation.
The task force, which has stepped up its monitoring activities in the area, discovered illegal miners at work during its second site visit. However, before the team could make any arrests, the miners quickly fled, abandoning their tools and the pits they were operating.
Authorities say this development highlights the ongoing challenge of enforcing the fight against galamsey, as many operators retreat at the first sight of law enforcement. Despite the escape of the miners, the task force secured the area and gathered evidence of the illegal activity.
Municipal Chief Executive Addo-Aikins Jnr. has emphasized that the fight against galamsey will be intensified, warning that those involved will face the full rigors of the law when caught. He also stressed the environmental and health dangers of galamsey, including water pollution and land degradation, which continue to threaten local communities.
The Kyebi Anti-Galamsey Task Force has vowed to carry out sustained patrols and surprise visits in a bid to clamp down on illegal mining in the Abuakwa South Municipality. Residents have been urged to support the effort by providing information on the operations of illegal miners.
The incident reflects the broader national struggle against galamsey, which remains a pressing issue despite government interventions aimed at restoring degraded lands and protecting natural resources.
