What began as an act of kindness for a stranded woman turned into a nightmare for a man who offered her a lift from Amasaman to Pokuase.

According to his account, the woman approached him at Amasaman, pleading for a ride to Pokuase to attend to an emergency. He agreed to help, but midway through the journey, events took an unexpected twist.

The woman suddenly asked him to stop so she could alight. However, when he pulled over, she refused to get down. Instead, she demanded money, insisting he must pay her before she would leave the car.

Matters escalated as her resistance drew the attention of some men nearby. When they confronted the driver, the woman accused him of having an affair with her and further alleged that he owed her GHS1,000 for her services.

Faced with growing pressure from the onlookers, the man said he was forced to negotiate with the woman. Eventually, he had no choice but to transfer GHS700 via mobile money before she agreed to step out of the vehicle.

The incident has since sparked conversations about the risks of offering strangers a lift and the dangers of opportunistic scams along Ghana’s busy highways.
