Lasmid says Ghana played a key role in shaping and popularizing Nigerian music

Ghanaian singer and songwriter Lasmid Nathaniel Owusu, popularly known as Lasmid, has claimed that Ghana has been instrumental in the growth and global appeal of Nigerian music.

In an interview with Hip TV, the “Pull” hitmaker stated that many Nigerian Afrobeats songs first gain recognition and momentum in Ghana before becoming nationwide hits in Nigeria.

According to him, the Ghanaian audience has a unique taste for discovering and amplifying new sounds, which has helped push several Nigerian records to broader audiences across the continent.

Lasmid explained that Ghana has long been a testing ground for many West African hits due to its vibrant music scene and open-minded fans who embrace diverse styles and rhythms. He believes this early support from Ghanaian listeners often gives Nigerian songs the boost they need to dominate charts and airwaves.

Lasmid, known for his hit songs “Friday Night,” “Running,” and “Bad Boy,” added that Ghanaian producers and DJs have consistently influenced the sound and rhythm of West African music, playing a silent but powerful role in its international success.

His comments have since sparked conversations among music lovers online, with many Ghanaians agreeing with his perspective and others calling for more recognition for Ghana’s contributions to the Afrobeats movement.
