The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has issued a stern warning to headteachers who deny admission to students duly placed in their schools or demand unapproved fees.
Speaking at the 32nd Annual Conference of Directors of Education in Sunyani, Bono Region, the Minister expressed concern over reports that some school heads were obstructing the enrollment of first-year students and extorting money from parents.
“Such practices are unacceptable and undermine the government’s commitment to equitable access to free and quality education for every Ghanaian child,” he stated.
He stressed that all students officially placed through the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) must be admitted without discrimination or extra charges. “Any denial of admission or demand for unapproved fees will not be tolerated,” Haruna Iddrisu added.
The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to discipline, transparency, and fairness within the education sector, warning that any headteacher found guilty would face strict administrative and legal action.
He also urged Directors of Education to enhance monitoring and ensure full compliance with Ministry directives to guarantee a smooth enrollment process nationwide.
