Nana Romeo Blasts GES Over Schoolgirl’s Forced Haircut, Says “Hairstyle Doesn’t Define Intelligence”

Nana Romeo criticises GES after a viral video showed a girl’s hair being cut before SHS admission, saying hairstyle doesn’t determine intelligence.

Ghanaian media personality Nana Romeo of Okay FM has lashed out at the Ghana Education Service (GES) following a viral video showing a young girl having her long hair cut before being admitted into a senior high school.

The incident, which has sparked widespread outrage on social media, shows school authorities insisting that the student trim her hair in accordance with school rules. However, Nana Romeo believes such practices are outdated and discriminatory.

Speaking on Okay FM, he argued that a person’s hairstyle has no correlation with their level of intelligence or discipline.

“A person’s hairstyle does not depict their IQ level, so it was unnecessary for the school to force the young girl to cut her hair,” he stated.

He further criticized the hypocrisy within the system, pointing out that many public officials who appear modest with trimmed hair are the same people engaging in corruption and mismanagement.

“Most corrupt public officials have trimmed their hair down to look gentle and modest, yet they are the ones causing mayhem to the country and its innocent citizens,” Nana Romeo added.

The radio host also lamented what he described as a broader African problem — the tendency to judge people based on outward appearance rather than character or ability.

“Africans are too quick to judge others based on their looks instead of what they can do. It’s a mentality we must outgrow,” he emphasized.

The Ghana Education Service is yet to issue an official response to the public backlash surrounding the incident.
