President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has issued a strong warning that no player who previously disrespected or rejected Ghana will be considered for the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana secured its fifth World Cup qualification after defeating Comoros, sparking renewed debate over whether foreign-born players who once snubbed call-ups should now be welcomed into the national team. Among those now available for selection are Eddie Nketiah, Callum Hudson-Odoi, and Francis Amuzu.
Speaking in an interview with 3Sports, Kurt Okraku emphasized that only players with genuine commitment, passion, and respect for Ghana’s flag will be part of the World Cup squad. “Players who have not shown enough commitment to the Ghanaian flag will not be part of us,” he stated.
He added that decisions will be made based on loyalty and dedication, not convenience. “If we approached you before and you turned us down, if you showed a lack of respect or declined to play for Ghana in the past, count yourself out. It’s not going to happen,” he declared.
Meanwhile, the draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place on December 5 in Washington, where Ghana will learn its group-stage opponents. Coach Otto Addo is expected to lead the team on an Asian tour in November, with friendly matches against Japan and South Korea as part of their World Cup preparations.
