Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), Rashid Tanko Computer, has strongly condemned the assault of a pharmacist and a customer at a pharmacy reportedly located at Burma Camp in Accra, describing the act as “animalistic behavior” that must not go unpunished.
Speaking on the AM Show, Mr Tanko expressed deep outrage over the viral incident and called for swift action from the security services. “He can’t get away with this animalistic behavior,” he declared.
“We won’t allow this thing to slide, not at all. The military high command must up its game and ensure this does not happen again,” he added.
His comments follow the circulation of a video showing a man, alleged to be a military officer in civilian clothing, physically assaulting pharmacy staff and a customer at the drugstore within Burma Camp.
Eyewitnesses say the altercation began after the man demanded a refund of GHS 65 for medication he had earlier sent a boy to buy. When the attendants explained that refunds could not be issued for opened drugs, the man reportedly lost his temper and attacked them.
In the footage, the man is seen slapping a female customer before punching a male pharmacist in the stomach and striking him across the face, scenes that have triggered widespread public outrage.
Mr Tanko described the viral video as a reflection of a broader issue concerning accountability and discipline among individuals linked to security agencies. “We must monitor closely what goes on across social media and other platforms,” he said.
He added that the public’s reaction to such incidents shows a growing demand for justice and transparency in Ghana. “This is an exciting time to be a Ghanaian; people are speaking up, and we must ensure justice is done,” he noted.
Mr Tanko revealed that discussions have already begun between relevant authorities following the assault and hinted that “a lot of things are going to happen” in response to the incident.
