The Constitution Review Committee (CRC) will, today, Monday, November 24, submit its much-anticipated report to President John Mahama at the Presidency in Accra. The presentation, scheduled for 1:00 p.m., marks a major step in the ongoing process to review Ghana’s 1992 Constitution.
The eight-member committee, led by Professor H. Kwasi Prempeh, Executive Director of the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), was inaugurated by the President to spearhead the constitutional review effort.
The CRC includes prominent professionals and policymakers:
Justice Sophia Adinyira, former Supreme Court Judge
Professor Kwame Karikari
Charlotte Osei
Dr. Godwin Djokoto
Ibrahim Tanko Amidu
Dr. Esi Ansah
Dr. Rainer Akumperigeya
Although the committee was inaugurated on January 30, it missed its original August deadline due to the extensive nature of the work. The CRC subsequently requested, and received, an additional three months to complete the assignment.
The submission of the report is expected to guide the next stage of Ghana’s constitutional reform process.
