A man believed to be in his late 30s is in critical condition at the Kasoa Polyclinic following a mob attack at Kasoa Walantu Junction in the Awutu Senya East Municipality.
The incident occurred after the suspect was allegedly caught attempting to steal parts from a refrigerator at a nearby repair shop, prompting an angry response from residents in the area.
According to eyewitness accounts, the man was removing the motor of a refrigerator that had been brought to the shop for repairs when he was apprehended in the act.
Speaking to Adom News, the owner of the repair shop, Sylvester Awugya, said the area has recently experienced several theft incidents, a situation that heightened tensions when the suspect was caught.
“This is not the first time we are recording theft here,” he indicated, explaining that repeated incidents have left residents on edge.
The situation escalated when some individuals allegedly assaulted the suspect before police arrived at the scene.
Officers from the Kasoa Divisional Police Command later intervened, rescued the suspect from the mob, and rushed him to the Kasoa Polyclinic, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
Police are yet to issue an official statement on the incident, while investigations into the alleged theft and mob assault are expected to continue.
