The Obuasi Police Command has apprehended 40 suspects during coordinated early-morning operations targeting suspected criminals and drug peddlers across Obuasi and nearby communities.
The exercise, carried out on Monday, December 16, 2025, between 5:00 a.m. and 10:20 a.m., was led by ASP Adam Muakalu and involved officers from the Divisional Operations Unit, Obuasi District, and the Formed Police Unit (FPU) Obuasi Base.
Police focused on key areas, including Bedieso, Kunka Junction, Abompe, and Akaporiso. At Bedieso, eight suspects were arrested, with dried leaves suspected to be cannabis recovered from a black polythene bag. At Kunka Junction, one suspect was found in possession of a wrapped package of similar dried leaves, while eleven others attempting to flee were apprehended.
In Abompe, several individuals were arrested while allegedly smoking in a ghetto, and police seized two bottles of alcohol suspected to be laced with cannabis. The operation extended to Akaporiso, where another quantity of dried leaves was recovered. Additional arrests were made behind an unfinished building, where suspects were reportedly drinking alcohol; police also seized a pack of tramadol.
All 40 suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations. Confiscated items are being held at the station for forensic examination, and suspects found with illegal substances will be arraigned in court as soon as possible.
Detective Chief Inspector Odoom Stephen, of the District Criminal Investigations Department (DCID), Obuasi, assured residents that the police will continue sustained operations to curb criminal activity and enhance safety within the municipality.
