The Ghana Police Service has acknowledged concerns over a decline in the quality of police investigations nationwide and has pledged renewed efforts to address the situation.

The assurance was given by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tettey Yohunu at the opening of the Regional Crime Officers Conference organised by the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at the Sunlodge Hotel in Tesano, Accra, on Thursday, December 18, 2025.

The conference, which brings together crime officers from across the regions, is aimed at assessing current investigative practices, strengthening professionalism, and improving outcomes within the Service.

Addressing participants, the IGP admitted that recent crime statistics reveal troubling weaknesses in investigative performance, warning that the trend poses a serious threat to public confidence in the police.

According to him, declining success rates in investigations undermine trust and credibility, making it imperative for the Service to act decisively.

“Our crime statistics paint a concerning picture about the decline in the quality and success rate of investigations. This trend is unacceptable, and we must take collective responsibility to improve it,” IGP Yohunu stated.

He stressed that the Police Administration is committed to strengthening investigative capacity, improving supervision, and equipping officers with the skills needed to deliver professional and credible outcomes.

“As the head of the Ghana Police Service, I am committed to reversing this trend and enhancing our investigative capabilities. Together, I believe we can restore public confidence in our service,” he added.

The IGP urged officers to treat the conference as an opportunity to reflect honestly on challenges facing the CID and to adopt practical measures that will improve investigative standards nationwide.
