A new poll by Global InfoAnalytics has found strong public support for a proposal to extend Ghana’s presidential term from four years to five years, a key recommendation contained in the Constitutional Review Commission’s (CRC) report released earlier this month.

According to the poll results published on Monday, December 29, 57 percent of voters approve of the proposed five-year presidential term, while 36 percent oppose the change. The remaining seven percent said they do not have an opinion.

The findings suggest growing public interest in adjusting the length of presidential terms, a reform proponents argue could allow governments more time to implement policies and reduce the frequency and cost of elections.

While the presidential term proposal attracted the most attention, the poll also measured public sentiment on other CRC recommendations. These include banning members of parliament from holding ministerial positions and lowering the minimum age to contest the presidency—both of which also recorded majority support.

Global InfoAnalytics conducted the nationwide survey between December 1 and December 21, 2025, using a mixed-method approach that combined online questionnaires, telephone interviews, and face-to-face interviews.

In total, 13,495 voters from across the country participated in the poll, providing one of the clearest snapshots yet of public opinion on the proposed presidential term extension.
