Two women being escorted by police after a La District Court remand ruling

A La District Court has remanded two young women into police custody over the alleged assault of a 12-year-old girl near La Roman Junior High School.

The accused — Precious Giftan Mesopeh, aged 22, and Princess Giftan Mesopeh, 25 — are standing trial on three counts: conspiracy, assault, and cruelty to a child. They both pleaded not guilty when they appeared before the court.

Their mother, Priscilla Novishie Wanyo, is currently on the run, and police say efforts are underway to locate and arrest her.

The court rejected a bail application submitted by counsel for the accused, citing strong opposition from the prosecution. Chief Inspector Gladys Aikins Asare, who is leading the prosecution, told the court that investigators require additional time to complete their work and warned that the accused persons could evade justice if released.

Consequently, the court ordered that the two women be remanded for two weeks, with the matter adjourned to January 19, 2026.

Prosecution’s Case

According to the prosecution, the victim — whose identity has been protected — was familiar with the Mesopeh household and regularly visited to assist with errands and domestic chores.

On December 30, 2025, the young girl reportedly got into an argument with the accused persons’ seven-year-old brother. The disagreement allegedly turned physical, leaving the boy injured.

The boy later informed his family about the incident. Prosecutors say the two accused women subsequently tracked down the girl and assaulted her, inflicting bodily harm and pain.

The case gained national attention after a video of the assault surfaced on social media, prompting swift police action and the arrest of the suspects.

Investigations are ongoing as authorities continue the search for the third suspect.
