After a year in office defined by difficult reforms and critical policy decisions, President John Dramani Mahama says his administration has established a solid and sustainable base for Ghana’s long-term development.
Addressing a Non-Denominational Thanksgiving Service at the forecourt of Jubilee House on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, the President described his first year as a period that demanded hard choices to stabilise the nation and reposition it for future progress.
President Mahama noted that while many of the reforms undertaken may not yet be visibly felt by the public, they were deliberately designed to ensure lasting national growth rather than short-term gains.“As we look back on the past years, we do so honestly. We have taken difficult decisions, we have made difficult reforms. We have laid foundations which may not be visible, but are sustainable for the sustainable progress of our country,” he said.
According to the President, the government’s immediate priorities during the year focused on economic stabilisation, institutional restructuring, and strengthening social protection systems, alongside efforts to rebuild confidence within Ghana and among international partners.
He explained that the thanksgiving service served not only as a moment of gratitude but also as a pause for reflection on the country’s journey so far, commending Ghanaians for their resilience amid ongoing reforms.
President Mahama reaffirmed that the steps taken over the past year were essential to securing sustained growth and development, assuring citizens that the foundations laid would yield long-term benefits for the nation.
