Late Agogo Apentenyinase Assembly Member Kwabena Osei

The Asante Akyem North Municipality has been thrown into mourning following the death of Kwabena Osei, a first-term Assembly Member for the Agogo Apentenyinase Electoral Area, in what authorities suspect may be a suicide.

The incident occurred on the night of Wednesday, January 7, at the deceased’s residence in Agogo, in the Ashanti Region.

Confirming the development to Citi News on Thursday, January 8, the Presiding Member for the Asante Akyem North Municipality, Frank Gyamfi, described the late Assembly Member as a young and promising leader in his early 30s, whose death came as a shock to colleagues and residents alike.

Mr Gyamfi disclosed that he had spoken with Kwabena Osei just days earlier regarding some personal matters, making the news of his death particularly distressing.

“I received a message from some of my colleagues that one of our assembly members, Kwabena Osei, is no more. I was shocked because I had spoken with him on Sunday,” he said.

While preliminary reports point to a possible suicide, Mr Gyamfi stressed that the exact circumstances remain unclear and should not be prejudged.

“They are saying it is a suicide, but whether he committed it himself or it was done by somebody else, we cannot confirm. I do not want to preempt what the police will uncover,” he stated.

Police have since deposited the body at the Agogo Mortuary and have commenced investigations to establish the full facts surrounding the incident.

The death of Kwabena Osei has sparked an outpouring of grief within the local government system and the wider community, with many describing him as a dedicated public servant with a promising future in leadership.
