Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Elections Committee, Joseph Osei Owusu, has appealed to all presidential aspirants and their supporters to rally behind the eventual winner of the party’s ongoing presidential primary, stressing that unity must prevail once the process is concluded.

Speaking to journalists at a polling centre on Saturday, January 31, Mr. Osei Owusu underscored that the primary should be viewed as a collective party exercise rather than a personal contest. He noted that whoever emerges victorious represents a win for the entire party and deserves the full backing of all members.

According to him, the atmosphere at the polling centres reflects the party’s commitment to a credible democratic process. He expressed satisfaction with how the exercise has been conducted, describing it as peaceful, transparent, and adequately secured.

Mr. Osei Owusu further stated that the calm environment and security arrangements give him confidence that the process will end without controversy. In his view, the conditions on the ground leave little room for complaints once voting is completed.

The presidential primary is expected to engage more than 211,000 delegates across over 300 polling centres nationwide. Five candidates are contesting the race: former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr Bryan Acheampong, former Minister of Education Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, and businessman Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

Security has been heightened nationwide, with police personnel deployed to all polling centres to ensure a smooth and peaceful voting process.

The outcome of the primaries is expected to shape the NPP’s future direction as the party prepares for the 2028 presidential election, following its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
