New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant, Kwabena Agyapong, has formally conceded defeat in the party’s presidential primaries as early results indicate a strong lead for former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
Preliminary figures emerging from several constituencies across the country show Dr Bawumia ahead of the other contenders, with vote counting still ongoing at multiple polling centres nationwide.
In a video sighted by JoyNews, Mr Agyapong is seen placing a congratulatory phone call to Dr Bawumia, openly acknowledging his apparent victory in the tightly contested race.
“Mahamudu, congratulations. I have seen that you have done it,” he said during the call.
Describing the contest as challenging, Mr Agyapong emphasised the need for unity and maturity following the primaries. He noted that safeguarding the cohesion of the party must take precedence over individual ambitions.
“It’s a tough battle, but it’s very important to hold the party together and make sure everything is fine,” he stated.
Mr Agyapong further pledged his continued support for Dr Bawumia, assuring him of his readiness to assist in any capacity going forward.
“As usual, you know I’m always available. We will meet at the party’s headquarters,” he added.
The NPP presidential primaries are expected to officially conclude once the Electoral Commission completes the collation and declaration of final results from all constituencies.
