President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that more than one million Ghanaians secured employment during the first two quarters of 2025, describing the development as a clear indicator of economic recovery and policy effectiveness.

Delivering the 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament on Friday, February 27, the President attributed the job gains to targeted interventions designed to stimulate growth across strategic sectors.

“Over one million Ghanaians gained employment within the first two quarters of 2025,” he announced, noting that the figures reflect tangible benefits reaching households nationwide.

Key Sectors Driving Employment

President Mahama highlighted agriculture, infrastructure development, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and the digital economy as major contributors to the employment surge.

He explained that investments and reforms in these areas have created opportunities for young people and strengthened livelihoods across both urban and rural communities.

According to him, the government’s focus on productivity and innovation is helping to expand the job market while supporting long-term economic resilience.

Youth Employment Remains a Priority

While acknowledging the progress made, the President stressed that expanding opportunities for the youth remains a central priority of his administration.

He said ongoing investments and partnerships with the private sector will play a crucial role in sustaining job creation and ensuring inclusive growth.

Job Creation Central to Economic Agenda

President Mahama reaffirmed that employment generation will remain at the heart of his economic strategy as the government works to consolidate growth and improve living standards.

He emphasised that empowering citizens through meaningful work is essential to strengthening the economy and building a more prosperous future for Ghana.
