President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to achieving universal electricity access, describing reliable and affordable power as essential to Ghana’s development and economic transformation.

Delivering the 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA) in Parliament on Friday, February 27, he emphasised that expanding electricity coverage remains a top national priority.

“We’re committed to ensuring that every Ghanaian has access to electricity,” he declared.

Focus on Rural and Underserved Communities

The President noted that ongoing investments in power generation, transmission and distribution infrastructure are designed to improve supply reliability, particularly in rural and underserved areas.

He explained that closing the electricity gap will help bridge development disparities and promote inclusive growth across the country.

Power as a Driver of Jobs and Industry

According to President Mahama, expanding access to stable electricity is critical for industrial expansion, job creation and improved living standards.

He stressed that reliable power supports businesses, boosts productivity and enhances opportunities for communities to thrive economically.

Government to Sustain Investments

The President assured Parliament that the government will continue investing in the energy sector to ensure nationwide coverage and long-term supply stability.

He said these efforts form part of a broader strategy to strengthen infrastructure and position Ghana for sustainable growth.
