Kofi Adams Backs Possible Recall

The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, says he would not be surprised if Andre Ayew earns a place in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking on Adom FM, Adams suggested that the veteran forward still has what it takes to make a return to the Black Stars, provided he remains active and competitive.

“Dede Ayew, too, is picking up, and as long as he has not retired, I won’t be surprised if he makes it into the 2026 World Cup squad,” Adams said.

Andre Ayew Seeking Black Stars Comeback

Andre Ayew, 36, has not featured for Ghana since the March 2024 international friendlies against Nigeria and Uganda. Since then, he has been left out of multiple squads, including:

  • Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers

  • 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers

Despite his absence from recent call-ups, the experienced forward remains one of Ghana’s most decorated internationals.

Fresh Start at NAC Breda

The former Le Havre attacker joined NAC Breda in January after being without a club at the end of last season.

Ayew has started the club’s last three Eredivisie matches as he works toward scoring his first goal for the Dutch side. His recent run of starts suggests he is regaining match fitness and sharpness — a factor that could influence future national team selection.

2026 World Cup Ambitions

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup approaching, discussions around squad depth and experience are intensifying. Ayew’s leadership, tournament experience, and influence in the dressing room could weigh in his favour if he maintains consistent performances at club level.

For now, Adams’ comments have reignited debate over whether the veteran forward could stage a remarkable return to Ghana’s World Cup plans.
