Lift ban on mosques and churches – NDC lawyer cautions

Private legal practitioner and a member of the NDC’s legal team, Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe has entreated government to lift the ban imposed on religious activities in the country.

Lawyer Edudzi is of the view that following the revocation of the partial lockdown and the subsequent directive for compulsory wearing of nose masks in all public places, churches, and mosques must also be allowed to reconvene.

Speaking in an interview followed by adwoaadubianews, he  explained that government can put in place measures to ensure that churches and mosques observe all the safety protocols to prevent the community spread of the novel coronavirus.

He proposed that as attendees of meetings at the presidency are compelled to put on their nose masks, all church members and Muslims at the mosques must also be compelled to wear the nose mask. He added that churches can further increase the number of services organized to ensure social distancing.

“We have seen a lot of meetings which have taken place at the presidency. All those who attend these meetings are seen to be wearing nose masks. Maybe going forward, we must tailor out a way to engage the religious leaders that, if we can now go to the shopping malls with nose masks, then we can also go into our churches with nose masks,” Edudzi Tamakloe intimated.

He further argued that “so with this, let’s say if we used to organize two services, we can even expand it to four services to enhance social distancing so that we can also have our churches and mosques coming on stream.”
