The National Organizer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku has insisted that the Akufo-Addo led government’s “good management” of the coronavirus pandemic will prominently feature in the party’s campaign message ahead of the 2020 general elections.
Sammy Awuku is of the firm belief that had the NPP failed to successfully manage the situation, the opposition NDC would have latched onto it, and highlighted those negatives, hence the gains the government makes as far as the crisis is concerned will not be allowed to go unnoticed when they mount campaign platforms.
Speaking in an interview monitored by ABC News, the National Organizer said the sterling leadership displayed by President Akufo-Addo in the fight against the pandemic will be rehashed to solicit for votes as the nation prepare to go the polls.
According to Mr. Awuku, although no political party was able to predict the pandemic, President Akufo-Addo’s management of it has been admired on the international scene where foreign nationals have used him as a standard to assess the performance of their respective heads of state.
“But why not? If NPP fails to manage this pandemic well, the NDC will use it against us. Currently, they are accusing us of failure in certain things we believe we have succeeded. Meaning, to them it forms part of their narrative. So to us, when the time comes we will also propagate the strides we have made in the management of this pandemic when we meet Ghanaians”, the national organizer argued.
He further explained that “in 2016, none of the political parties was able to predict that it will meet this pandemic. This virus just came by way of accident. But when the NPP met this, the president has been up to the task. In many instances on social media, there are many foreign nationals who use President Akufo-Addo’s management as a standard to measure their president.”
“Some health experts have even testified that the secret of the success of President Akufo-Addo in this crisis is that, he heeds to the advice of the experts,” he indicated.
