A 15-year-old COVID-19 patient has allegedly escaped from quarantine at the St Theresa Hospital in the Upper West region.
The boy, Maabang Titus, a resident of Bu in the Nandom District of the region, is said to have fallen “sick on Saturday, May 2, 2020, and diagnosed with symptoms of COVID-19.”
He was subsequently admitted and quarantined at the St Theresa hospital and his sample taken for testing.
Hospital authorities on their usual rounds in the early hours of Wednesday, May 13, 2020, however, detected the absence of the boy at the holding centre where he was receiving treatment for the coronavirus pandemic.
He’s said to have escaped from the facility about 9:00 am whilst awaiting test results of his sample, an incident which has thrown the community into a state of fear.
Meanwhile, the Upper West Regional Police Command is urging relatives and the general public to volunteer information leading to the arrest of the 15-year-old boy, to curb the spread of the disease.
“The Regional Police Command hereby urges relatives and the general public especially the people of Nandom to aid the Police and the Hospital authorities with reliable information to get in touch with the patient for treatment to avoid the spread.”
“The Command further wishes to advise that, collective fight against the coronavirus pandemic is required to achieve a positive result,” the statement signed by the Upper West Regional Police PRO, Inspector Gideon Ohene Boateng read.
