Assin Central Lawmaker, Kennedy-Agyapong has said that most Members of Parliament(MPs) are poor because all they depend on is their salaries.
According to him, he is the highest-paid Member of Parliament(MP)t because he has just taken car loan since he entered Parliament.
“A Member of Parliament recently received GHC 167 as salary because he had to service loans he had taken. I’m the highest paid Parliamentarian now because I just took a car loan in the past. I receive GHC11,000.”
“I pay chop money of GHC 20,000 to each of my two wives so if I am being paid an amount of GHC 11,000, how would I’ve lived on this amount of money? If I did not have investments I would have broken down by now. I take care of my constituents and even other constituents because I’ve invested and I’ve other businesses.”
The Assin Central lawmaker indicated that it’s high time the Political Party through individuals who are given Ministerial positions support the Member of Parliament with contracts to make them financially sound or else the party will continue to lose experienced hands during every election.
To him, most of the new candidates who won were people who occupied Chief Executive positions in the country and made a lot of money so they were advantaged not only with time but also had time to reach out to the people at the grassroots.
