The Ashanti Regional Executives Committee of the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) says it has not consented to any Member of Parliament running unopposed in the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries.
There have been rumours on social media that some Parliamentarians including MPs for Asante Akim North and Asante Mampong, Andy Appiah Kubi and Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong are to contest unopposed.
The NPP goes to the polls in April 2020 to elect Parliamentary Candidates in areas where there are incumbent MPs for the upcoming December elections.
The NPP youth wing in Asante Akim North constituency which says it has intelligence that the constituency executives and electoral area coordinators are putting together a petition to allow the sitting MP to go unopposed has vowed to resist any such move with all their might.
But speaking to Kasapa News monitored by Adwoadubianews.com, the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the party, Sam Pyne stated that for now there is no such intention to clear any MP to go unopposed.
“I can say on authority that reports that some MPs are to contest unopposed is not true and should be disregarded by the public. No such decision has been taken as at yet and we at the regional level are unaware of any such move. Let’s be patient when the time is due for the primaries we’ll all see how things will pan out.”
