Ghanaian dancer, dance coach and choreographer, Dancegod Lloyd born Laud Anor Konadu has revealed how difficult it was for him to initially make a living out of his talent but insists things have now changed drastically.
“First it was a bit of a problem. Initially, when the artistes see that you’re a good dancer they will just put you in their music videos. But now it has changed drastically,” he disclosed.
The co-founder of the dance school, DWP academy who in 2020 performed in Beyonce’s Already music video which featured Shatta Wale told Amansan Krakye on Kastle FM monitored by MyNewsGh.com that nowadays he no longer perform for free in music videos as compared to when he started as a dancer.
“Nowadays they sit with me and ask how much do you want to take and we want you to choreograph the whole video. So you are the one responsible for the dance moves in the music video even if the artiste want to dance in the music video you are the one to direct the dancing pattern and not necessarily you the dancer being physically seen dancing in the music video,” he said.
He added “Those days you were told to dance in the music video for a paltry amount of money but nowadays if you are invited you either feature in the video or not but you have to charge them an amount which is befitting.”
Speaking on the Kastle Entertainment Show, Dancegod Lloyd who hails from Kibi in the Eastern Region of Ghana and attended Presbyterian Boys Senior High School in Accra said that choreographing in a music video can cost as much as ¢2K or ¢3K.
“Choreographing for a music video is very very expensive and sometimes I can charge like ¢2K or ¢3K and that goes for every choreographer and that’s what I do for a living. But first maybe you have been looking up to them so when you’re invited you can’t charge what you prefer and you just dance for the fun of it but trust me now things have changed,” he told the host.
