Canadian kidnappers case: Detective reveals how he uncovered link between accused persons.

The Accra High Court was left in awe as a Detective in the Canadian girls kidnapping case explained how he uncovered exchanges between the four accused persons.

Detective Sergeant Sylvester Essel, who is the tenth prosecution witness revealed that the phones brought to his office for analysis contained images of the two Canadian girls believed to have been kidnapped in June 2019.

“In my analysis, I was able to retrieve two ladies who were sitting down with their hands behind them. There were some stains that looked like blood on them.

“Apart from the photographs, I was able to retrieve images of weapons and animations from the phone. The said images could be seen on both the Infinix and the Vivo phones,” the detective narrated.

Mr Essel, who is with the Cyber Crime Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department said he was able to identify which phone belonged to each accused person.

He then gave an instance where the techno phone had an SMS message from the service providers, which confirmed that a Vodafone number (050839669) had been used in the phone.

The detective further indicated that there was a similar line of messages, images and animations on each phone analysed prior to the kidnapping and after the kidnapping.

Background

The four accused persons; Sampson Agharlor, Elvis Ojiyorwe, Jeff Omarsar and Yusif Yakubu are standing trial to charges of conspiracy to kidnap and kidnapping.

Charges, they have all pleaded not guilty to. The four are being held for the various roles in the kidnapping of Miss Lauren Patricia Catherine Tiley and Miss Bailey Jordan Chilley.

The two University of New Brunswick students were abducted on June 4, 2019 while volunteering for a Non Governmental Organisation.

They were rescued that same month, which led to the arrest of the suspects.

The two are believed to have been abducted at the Kumasi Royal Golf Club at 8:25pm, according to a news release from the Ghana Police Service.

Medical reports confirmed the girls were returned physically unhurt.

The case is set to continue on March 29, 2021.
