A refreshing sign that the newly nominated deputy minister for information, Fatimatu Abubakar will enjoy a good working relationship with her Boss, the information minister, Hon. Kojo Opong Nkrumah has been given by the minister himself through a post on his Facebook wall shortly after the list of deputy ministers was released to the public.
The Ofoase Ayiribi member of Parliament (MP) wrote an open letter to congratulate and welcome the young Lawyer who is going to deputies him in steering the affairs of communicating government business.
The short, simple, witty and heart warning message reads:
“Hello Fatimatu Abubakar, we look forward to welcoming you shortly to the Ministry of Information. Congratulations on your nomination”.
Kojo Opong Nkrumah had been deputised by Mr. Pious Hadzide in the first term of Akufo Addo’s administration. Like many other ministries, it is always told of bad blood between the substantive ministers and their deputies.
Some feuds between ministers and their deputies due to insubordination and other factors often degenerate to s level where they get separated. A classical example in the NPP happens between the then sports minister, Hon. Asiamah and his deputy Pious Hadzide after the infamous Australian visa scandal. Pious was moved to information.
It is therefore worth appreciating seeing a minister expressing eagerness to receive his deputy. It is a positive sign that the two will have it smoothly.
Probably, the short sting they had together during the Presidential election petition, where they had the responsibility of explaining the Akufo Addo side of proceedings in the Supreme Court to the public might have given them both an insight into a future working relationship.
Fatimatu Abubakar is a well-spoken communicator who will now replace Pious if approved by Parliament.
