The Sports Ministry has budged $25m for the Black Stars’ Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, next year’s African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon and other events.
This amount has raised criticisms among sports fanatics; many claim monies spent so far on such campaigns have not yielded any results.
Interacting with Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s Morning show ‘Kokrokoo‘, Sports Minister, Mustapha Ussif said out of the total amount budgeted, $6m have been allocated for AFCON.
Taken aback by the amount, the renowned journalist asked “does it make economic sense” to spend such an amount that is even bigger than the prize money of $4.5m.
