#FixTheCountry: Ghanaians react to job post by McDonald’s paying $18 per hour; approximately GH¢24K per month in Ghana
Ghanaians have reacted with mixed and personal feelings towards a job post by McDonald’s paying $18 per hour which is approximately GH¢24,385 when converted to the local cedi.
Many believe this amount is more than the yearly paycheck of workers in Ghana after all deductions have been made which clearly depict that Ghana is lagging behind in terms of economic growth which provides citizens with better alternatives.
Although this job posting is based in the United States of America where tax obligations need to be met, an argument many have made, it still makes little sense to people as to why a worker could be paid $18 per hour while in Ghana, one hardly gets paid for $18 per day.
Concerns have been raised about Ghana’s minimum wage which currently stands at GH¢11 per day which is less than $2. While, in the states, the minimum wage is being increased to support the aspirations of the citizens.
