A former Obuasi East Member of Parliament Edward Anning has stated without mincing words that galamsey will end if appointees, cronies and persons associated with President Akufo-Addo stop engaging in the illegal act.
He said if galamsey is illegal, it should be illegal for everybody irrespective of the party they belong to.
He posited that Ghanaians would vote against you if you engage in selective in dealing with the canker.
The former NPP MP said: ”if the thing is not good, it is not good for NPP, NDC.
He was reacting to the approach being used towards the fight against illegal mining.
He told host Kwabena Agyapong that when you speak the truth, people will come at you.
He explained that if you need more than six months in fighting galamsey if you are committed in the fight.
He said anyone who is engaging in galamsey must be punished even if they are minsiters.
To him, the President must succeed in the fight so Ghanaians would know he is serious in fighting the canker.
Mr. Edward Anning said from what he has seen, he does not believe the fight against galamsey will succeed.
”From what I have seen, I have lost faith in the fight against galamsey. The galamsey is something that Asantehene was bold to say when the government appointees from Jubilee House, Ministries, District Assemblies and Chiefs stop, it will end,” he added.
