Miami-Dade County, Florida, Mayor Daniella Levine Cava confirmed on Friday that at least four people have died and 159 are still unaccounted for following Thursday’s partial collapse of a residential building in the South Florida community.
Local authorities say that search and rescue efforts are ongoing at the scene, and a police investigation into the collapse is underway. Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency in Miami-Dade County and President Biden also approved an emergency declaration that allows the Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency “to coordinate all disaster relief efforts.”
