He says he was surprised to hear such speculations when he returned to town.
These were contained in a brief by the Western Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, on Friday, July 16 when she met the media in Takoradi.
It will be recalled that some traditional leaders of the Apinto Divisional Council in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality had reported the Gyaasehene missing on Thursday, July 15 after his driver allegedly saw his “abandoned“ vehicle with the key in the ignition and two mobile phones in his car.
Speculations were rife in Tarkwa that he had been kidnapped, with some linking it to an alleged threat on his life by a relative of the overlord of Apinto, known as Kakra.
But Dr. Nana Adarkwa Bediako III, a lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), returned in the evening, saying he was tired and would only speak the next day.
Speaking to the media, Western Regional Police PRO DSP Olivia Ewurabena Adiku disclosed what the Gyaasehene told the police
“He had gone to withdraw some money from ABII National after which he decided to walk to a nearby shop which sells musical instruments, as he intended to buy some for a church, Pentecost.
“He says a young man bumped into him on his way there and warned him that some people wanted to murder him.
“So, he quickly jumped into a taxi to get away from the area,” she stated.
The PRO says he is yet to tell the police where exactly he went to.
On whether any charges would be preferred against him, she said that would be after investigations.
She was, however, quick to add that since he did not make any statement about being kidnapped, he cannot be held for it.
