The vetting of the New Special Prosecutor, Mr. Kissi Agyebeng finally came up yesterday as the panelists of the Parliament Appointment Committee threw diverse questions to assess how truth and loyal he would be in eradicating corruption in the country.
Mr. Kissi Agyebeng stated categorically that he cannot stop corruption, even God cannot stop corruption in this country. Ghanaians are looking for a Special Prosecutor who will take the bull and the horn and stop corruption in the country and for all. But his comment suggests that he will be an ordinary Special Prosecutor who would just wait for the incident to happen before he takes action.
The Committee also asked him the kind of experience he would use to fight corruption if approved. They asked him whether he will like to wear the shoes of the former Special Prosecutor, Mr. Martin Amidu, and follow his methodology of doing his work but Mr. Kissi Agyebeng said that he will like to wear his own shoe and use his own strategy in fighting corruption.
These statements from the incoming Special Prosecutor seem to suggest he wouldn’t love to follow anyone’s strategy of eradicating corruption but he stated that he would make corruption costly and unattractive. Most Ghanaians are already disappointed because Mr. Martin Amidu though was appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo tried to investigate him when the need arose. In view of that, they would love to hear Mr. Agyebeng use some of Mr. Amudu’s methodology in fighting corruption.
It was upon this that Tilapia The cartoonist drew this cartoon with the caption:
“Filling the shoes of experience: Amidu’s ‘Abongo’ shoes abandoned!”.
Some Ghanaians agreed with Mr. Agyebeng to use his own ways of getting corrupt officials paid for their crimes whiles many wished he uses Martin Amidu’s methodology of fighting corruption. Check out reactions from some Ghanaians below:
