Recently, there was a video in circulation where some NPP youth in Busunu in the Northern Region rejected bags of rice which was reportedly to be given to them by the Member of Parliament of Damongo Constituency and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor.
In the said video, the youth were heard shouting statements such as, “take your rice away, we want jobs not rice”.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) youth in Busunu has however come out to render an apology for what happened. Mr. Seidu Sakibu, the PRO, on behalf of the NPP youth in Busunu in a press conference said that the group was sorry for the incident that took place. He said that the group believed that the actions taken during that time was a step in the right direction but seemed to have brought sleepless nights to the executives. He stated that it was not known to them that the bags of rice was not meant for the youth but rather for the chiefs, clan heads and elders as this was annual activity performed by MP, Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor
He thus on behalf of the group said that they deeply regret and apologize for their actions and inactions that must caused any inconveniences.
He further explained that the calls for jobs and not rice made that particular day was not to sabotage or backstab the MP but to draw the MP’s attention to the cries of the people and come to their aid; create employment opportunities for the youth just as it is being done in other districts. He added that the members of the area were lucky to have Hon. Abu Jinapor as Constituency MP.
Mr. Seidu Sakibu added that he is hoping that the MP would take notice of the issues raised and come to the people’s aid.
