Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe has alleged that former Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, was persuaded by a minister of state, not to publish the report on Charles Bissue.

Bissue, a former Secretary to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), was investigated for allegedly taking bribes from “galamseyers” – people involved in illegal mining.

Investigator, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, in a video showed Bissue taking money from someone, with the allegation that, the latter was involved in corrupt activities at his office.

The matter was eventually handed over to the Ghana Police to undertake the investigations, but after their interrogations and investigations, the outfit exonerated Bissue.

But, Amidu who was then the Special Prosecutor, quizzed the Ghana Police as to why they published their report exonerating Bissue, since he (Amidu) was also conducting investigations into the matter.

Amidu’s said investigations on the issue never saw the light of day, as no report from his outfit was made public until he resigned his post in December 2020.

Thus during a discussion on The Dialog on Net 2 monitored by nsemgh.com, Kwame Baffoe who is also known as Abronye, revealed that, a minister, who is a friend of Amidu, asked him not to publish the report on Bissue.

“I want Amidu to come out and challenge me on this issue. A minister, who is a friend to he – Amidu, persuaded him not to publish the report on the Charles Bissue bribery case”, he said.

“With the Bissue matter, a national officer of the party, who is involved in galamsey, sent a youth organizer of the party, who is also involved in galamsey, to convince he – Bissue, to be in bed with them so they could carry out their illegal mining activities. But Bissue, turned them down, since the President had begun fighting the menace. So the national youth officer, who had planted a video recorder on him all the while, when leaving the office parted with the said amount, to Bissue with the reason that, the money be used to fete the staff in the office”, he opined

” So Charles Bissue, without any ill-mind, took the money, since he knew the youth organizer. But the youth organizer, sold the video to Anas. So Anas had no hand in the recording. Everything regarding the video was done by people within the NPP who are engaged in galamsey”, Abronye said.

Kwame Baffoe said Amidu is not a saint, because he is given envelopes when he visits outfits he is collecting information from, so he is asking Amidu to come out and deny everything said about him.
