The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has assured the family of Nana Adjei, a Ghanaian student who died under mysterious circumstances in Latvia, of the government’s unwavering commitment to uncovering the truth and securing justice.

The death of the young Ghanaian has sparked widespread concern among family members and the general public, prompting swift diplomatic action from the government.

Speaking on the matter, Mr. Ablakwa emphasized that Ghana will not relent in demanding transparency and accountability from all parties involved in the case.

He disclosed that a high-level Ghanaian delegation is scheduled to travel to Latvia on January 20, where it will engage relevant Latvian authorities and closely monitor ongoing investigations into the student’s death.

According to the Minister, the delegation will include members of Nana Adjei’s family, along with forensic experts, to support efforts aimed at independently establishing the exact cause of death.

Mr. Ablakwa stressed that the investigation will be pursued with full international cooperation, ensuring credibility, fairness, and adherence to due process.

He reaffirmed the government’s firm stance on protecting the rights, safety, and dignity of Ghanaians abroad, regardless of their location.

The Foreign Affairs Minister further revealed that President John Dramani Mahama is personally backing the family and has directed that all necessary diplomatic and legal measures be taken to ensure justice is served.

“The safety and welfare of Ghanaians living outside the country remain a top priority. No Ghanaian will be allowed to be ill-treated. We will stand firmly with the family,” Mr. Ablakwa assured.

He added that his Ministry will continue engaging Latvian authorities and will provide regular updates as the investigation progresses.
