Accra Mayor confronts MTTD officer at Tudu over extortion claims

A tense exchange unfolded at Tudu in Accra after Accra Mayor Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey confronted an MTTD police officer over alleged extortion. The clash followed complaints from some road users who claimed the officer was collecting money from drivers in the area.

The officer, visibly defensive, denied any wrongdoing, insisting he had not taken money from anyone. The situation escalated when the Accra Mayor instructed the officer to remove his helmet for proper identification, but the officer refused, claiming doing so would amount to improper dressing while on duty.

Eyewitnesses recorded the heated moment, with some expressing support for the Mayor’s action, while others questioned the officer’s defiance. The confrontation has since sparked public debate on accountability within the police service and the growing concern over roadside extortion in Accra.

As of now, there has been no official comment from the Ghana Police Service regarding the incident. However, many are calling for a formal investigation into the extortion allegations and the officer’s conduct.
