Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has extended congratulations to the five aspirants who successfully filed their nominations to contest in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming presidential primaries.
The NPP’s Presidential Elections Committee confirmed that the following aspirants had completed and submitted their nomination forms:
Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong
Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong
Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong
H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum
The party’s internal elections are slated for Saturday, January 31, 2026, to select a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, August 28, the Effutu MP praised the aspirants for taking what he described as an “important step in deepening our internal democracy and strengthening the party’s traditions.” He wrote: “I extend my warm congratulations to all five (5) Presidential Aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP: Development in Freedom) who have successfully filed and submitted their nomination forms.”
Mr. Afenyo-Markin further appealed to the aspirants and their supporters to uphold unity and mutual respect throughout the campaign. “As we move into the next phase of the process, I urge all aspirants and their supporters to conduct their campaigns with decorum, unity, and mutual respect. Let us avoid divisive tendencies and remain focused on the bigger goal of building a stronger NPP and advancing our national development,” he added.
He concluded his message with a nod to the party’s symbol, declaring: “Indeed, the ELEPHANT is a winning symbol!”
