AdubianewsThe Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has confirmed that the assets of the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Abdul-Wahab Hanan, and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, have been frozen as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, October 22, Dr. Ayine disclosed that investigators had frozen a fixed deposit account containing GHS10 million belonging to Mr. Hanan at the Republic Bank, Labone Branch. The move, he said, was part of efforts to prevent further dissipation of assets suspected to be proceeds of crime.
In addition to the frozen funds, several luxury vehicles and over 60 designer handbags linked to the couple have also been seized. The Attorney General indicated that his office would take legal steps to ensure the assets are confiscated by the state as criminal proceedings progress.
Preliminary investigations, according to Dr. Ayine, have uncovered multiple high-value properties allegedly owned by the couple. These include a 17-bedroom boutique hotel at Gumani, Tamale, registered under Fa-Hausa Company Limited, which reportedly entered into a $250,000 franchise deal with Villa Monticello to conceal ownership.
Other identified assets include a four-bedroom bungalow at Dzorwulu, Accra, valued at GHS4.1 million; a three-story commercial building housing Chicken Republic at Estate Junction, Tamale; a five-bedroom mansion at Kanvili, Dorado Street, Tamale; a three-bedroom residence at Kpalsi, Tamale; a one-story house at No. 10 Selby Gardens, Achimota; and two parcels of land, one spanning 27 acres at Estate Junction, Tamale, and another 29 acres near Workers College, Tamale.
The Attorney General emphasized that the action aligns with the government’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and the fight against corruption. The investigation aims to recover any misappropriated public funds and uphold the integrity of state institutions.
