Akufo-Addo’s Office Denies Claims of Seeking Mahama’s Intervention for Ofori-Atta

The Office of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has strongly denied reports suggesting that he is seeking a meeting with President John Dramani Mahama to obtain assurances for the safe passage of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

The clarification comes against the backdrop of an ongoing legal dispute involving Mr Ofori-Atta and multiple anti-corruption agencies, including the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), over allegations that he caused financial loss to the state.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, the former president’s office described the claims as false and fabricated, urging the public to disregard them entirely.

“The office wishes to state emphatically that this publication is utterly false. It is a total fabrication by the supposed source,” the statement said.

The statement further stressed that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has neither contemplated nor made—expressly or impliedly—any request or representation to President Mahama regarding the matter.

Commitment to Rule of Law

According to the statement, the former president remains a firm believer in democratic governance and the rule of law, principles which continue to guide his actions even after leaving office.

While acknowledging that Mr Akufo-Addo holds personal concern for Mr Ofori-Atta—stemming from familial ties and his role as a senior official during the Akufo-Addo administration—the office was categorical that such concern does not translate into interference with judicial or investigative processes.

The statement concluded by expressing hope that the clarification would put an end to speculation surrounding the issue. “Hopefully, this sets the record straight on the matter.”
