FrimpongFormer Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation has made a strong case why he is the best fit for the position of a running mate for the former President, John Dramani Mahama.
Mr Alex Mould believes that one criterion the NDC flagbearer is likely to base his choice on is trust, and he [Alex Mould] is someone well trusted by John Mahama.
The subject of naming a suitable partner for the former President for the December 7, the general election has been of interest in many Ghanaians, some of who believe the exercise has delayed.
Though the Party has repeatedly mentioned that it will announce a running mate when it is ready, some names like Professor Kwesi Botchwey, Dr Kwabena Dufuor, former Education Minister Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, and Alex Mould have come up as likely candidates to be chosen to battle the NPP.
Speaking on PM Express about his interest in supporting the former President as running mate, Alex Mould indicated that the fact that Mr Mahama appointed him to head GNPC which he believes is the largest corporate job in the public sector means he has the trust of the former President.
“First and foremost you have to look at what the flagbearer is looking for, somebody he can trust, somebody who can be his confidant, somebody who can assist him in various areas, complement him and also take leadership in certain areas, so I think that’s going to be the major criteria. I think he [John Mahama] trusts me, he wouldn’t have offered me the largest corporate job in the public sector, in corporate world, we measure with revenue and profitability, so yes, he wouldn’t have charged me with that if he did not trust me because this is a job that can make or break a country…He appointed me there, and he kept me there, and I did a good job.
“I’m sure he had his mechanisms to evaluate everybody he’s given a position and you wouldn’t remain in that position if you’re not trusted and the trust comes from the fact that you get feedback from all the stakeholders you deal with and that trust builds over time…You can tell if someone trusts you, he trusts your opinion, he trusts things that you’re telling him, he can bounce things off you, that is how you build trust. When you work with somebody and the person consistently helps you with decisions, you should trust him. As a leader, you have a way of evaluating the performance of your people and I think trust is important,” he stated.
Alex mould said once his party settles on him, he is ready to accept the role.
“I am working with my party and any position my party wants me to help them in, I am prepared to do that. I worked with them from the transition team in 2009 to working at the Ministry of energy with the Minister at NPA, at GNPC, I am working with the party for us to develop our structures, develop our organization, make it more fit for purpose, and ready for the election and that is what my job is, so any role that the party deems based on my skillset and my background, I am prepared to assist in it, including the vice-presidential role.
“The flagbearer has to work with the functional executive of the party in consultation with the elders, come up with a criteria in choosing, and yes if they call me and nominate me and I pass the criteria, I definitely will accept it.”
