The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has defended his ongoing nationwide thank-you tour, describing it as a necessary gesture of appreciation to party members and supporters for their role in securing the NDC’s 2024 electoral victory.
The tour, which marks his second round of post-election engagements since the party took office in January 2025, has seen Asiedu Nketia visiting several regions to meet with grassroots members, executives, and volunteers who contributed to the NDC’s success.
However, the initiative has sparked public debate, with some political observers and critics questioning the need for such a tour by a party chairman, arguing that post-election appreciation tours are typically led by the presidential candidate.
Addressing supporters in the Hohoe Constituency on Tuesday, October 14, Asiedu Nketia brushed aside the criticisms, maintaining that his actions are consistent with the NDC’s long-standing culture of gratitude and unity. “Those who disagree with me can continue with that, and I will continue to honor my promise. That is why I am here,” he declared.
He further explained that the tour is rooted in Ghanaian and party tradition, emphasizing that expressing gratitude is a moral duty. “When you go and beg somebody to give you something, and you are given what you request, the next thing is to go and say thank you. That is why I have come to say thank you to everybody,” he said to cheers from party supporters.
According to the NDC Chairman, the thank-you tour is not about political showmanship or publicity but rather a genuine effort to reconnect with the party’s base and acknowledge the contributions of members who worked tirelessly before and during the elections.
He concluded by reiterating that the NDC’s continued strength lies in its unity and grassroots support, pledging to remain accessible and accountable to party members across the country.
