A disturbing case of domestic violence has rocked Anum in the Assin North district of the Central Region, where 35-year-old Faustina Ackom was shot by her husband, 41-year-old Wahibu Bukari, over suspicions of infidelity.
The incident occurred around 1:00 am on Sunday, leaving Faustina with gunshot wounds to her left inner arm and breast. She was rushed to the St Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu, where she is currently receiving treatment.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing the mother of four crying out for help after the shooting. One neighbour, Lydia Yeboah, explained that Bukari, who had been ill for some time, grew suspicious of his wife after allegedly discovering phone numbers on her mobile phone. He reportedly confronted her around 12:30 am, accusing her of cheating, which led to a heated argument.
In the midst of the dispute, Bukari allegedly opened fire when Faustina attempted to escape. Neighbours quickly rushed to her aid after hearing her cries.
The suspect fled immediately after the attack and is currently on the run. Residents believe he may have escaped to Assin Fosu, Kushia, or Twifo Praso.
Police investigations are ongoing. A team from the Assin Fosu Divisional Police Command has since visited the victim at the hospital to assess her condition and gather information to aid in the manhunt.
