Ghana’s senior women’s national football team, the Black Queens, will face Côte d’Ivoire in two international friendly matches as part of their preparations for the upcoming 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Match Schedule Confirmed

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed that the two friendly matches will take place away in Côte d’Ivoire on:

  • May 30, 2025
  • June 3, 2025

These games are expected to provide the team with critical match experience ahead of the continental tournament scheduled from July 5 to 26, 2025.

Squad Announcement

On May 19, 2025, Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren announced a 24-player squad for the friendlies. The selection includes a mix of experienced players and rising talents, as the technical team aims to finalize its strongest lineup for WAFCON.

Ongoing Preparations for WAFCON

Before these upcoming friendlies, the Black Queens held a nine-day training camp in Senegal in April 2025. During that period, the team played two friendly matches against Senegal’s Teranga Lionesses, gaining valuable playing time and tactical experience.

These friendlies and camps are part of a broader strategy by the GFA to ensure the team is fully prepared to compete at the highest level in Morocco.

Ghana’s WAFCON 2025 Group

Ghana has been drawn in Group C of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. They will compete against:

  • South Africa
  • Mali
  • Tanzania

The team is aiming for a strong showing, with hopes of advancing to the knockout stage and challenging for the title.

What’s Next?

The Black Queens are scheduled to resume full training this week as they prepare for their trip to Côte d’Ivoire. Both matches will serve as final tests before the squad shifts focus entirely to the WAFCON tournament in July.

Fans and stakeholders are optimistic about the team’s chances, especially given the structured build-up and increased investment in women’s football in Ghana.
