AdubianewsThe Bank of Ghana (BoG) has announced the postponement of the national launch of the Cedi@60 Anniversary programme, originally scheduled for Friday, August 8, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre.
According to a statement issued by the Bank, the decision was taken in response to the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians on Wednesday, August 6. The victims included five senior government officials and three members of the Ghana Armed Forces.
The deceased government officials were:
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence
Hon. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation
Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC
Mr. Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate
Also among the dead were crew members:
Squadron Leader Peter Anala
Flying Officer Twum Ampadu
Sergeant Ernest Addo
The officials were en route to Obuasi for an official engagement when their Ghana Armed Forces helicopter went down in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
In its statement, the BoG said: “We regret to announce that the launch has been postponed.” The Bank extended “its deepest condolences to His Excellency the President of the Republic, the Government and People of Ghana, and the families of the departed.”
Acknowledging the collective grief of the nation, the statement concluded: “The Bank appreciates the understanding and cooperation of all its stakeholders and the general public during this period of national mourning.”
