AdubianewsA young man looking to upgrade his phone was left devastated after falling victim to a phone swap scam at Adum, Kumasi. He had added GH¢220 to his iPhone 7 Plus with hopes of trading it for an iPhone 11 Pro Max, but ended up with a counterfeit device.
The unsuspecting buyer met a vendor at the bustling Adum market who confidently assured him of a smooth exchange. After paying the top-up and receiving what appeared to be the iPhone 11 Pro Max, he walked away satisfied, until he powered the device. That’s when the truth hit. The phone was a non-functional, cheap imitation with no real iOS system.
Witnesses said the man stood frozen, then began to sweat profusely despite the cold weather. He reportedly returned to confront the vendor, but the swindler had vanished without a trace. His stress and frustration quickly drew attention from curious onlookers and sympathetic traders.
The incident adds to the growing number of scams in busy trading areas, where unsuspecting buyers are often tricked with fake electronics. Many are now urging the public to stick to verified phone shops and avoid risky street deals that could end in heartbreak.
