The Central Regional Minister, Eduamoah Okyere Ekow Panyin, has signaled a possible staff reduction at the Awutu Senya East Municipal Assembly following concerns about low productivity.

Speaking during a working visit, the minister said the assembly’s staff strength of 154 workers does not reflect in its overall output, despite being higher than that of the Regional Coordinating Council.

He highlighted that the assembly continues to underperform in critical operational areas such as revenue mobilisation, sanitation improvement, and spatial planning, calling for immediate action to address inefficiency.

The minister has instructed the Municipal Chief Executive, Seth Sabah Serwonoo-Banini, to closely monitor departments over the next two weeks and identify personnel who are not contributing effectively.

Such individuals, he said, may face transfer or redeployment to ensure that staff numbers match productivity demands. He further advised that all future postings to the assembly should be rigorously evaluated to ensure proper alignment between staff roles and performance needs.

Speaking to Citi News on Thursday, November 27, the minister noted that this assessment will eventually extend to all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Central Region as part of efforts to boost operational efficiency.

He criticised some employees for lax attitudes, including unofficially operating “shift systems” despite no such arrangement being approved. He urged assembly leaders to match individual strengths with appropriate departments and avoid misplacing personnel.

“In the next two weeks, we will monitor activities in all departments to determine whether the staff numbers justify the output. Those whose roles are not adding value will be immediately redeployed to places where their services are needed,” he stated.
